Meeting Interaction Assessment
The need for good decisions and effective collaboration are paramount for all teams but leadership teams in particular. The ability to plan, innovate, problem solve and make decisions is dependent upon the quality of the interaction among a team. Too many teams are undermined by emotional reactivity and simplistic thinking driven by expediency and the need for comfort. Meetings are an ideal place to assess the team’s meta-skills since it is a specific place in time where habits and tendencies are most easily seen.
This 13-question assessment provides an opportunity to begin thinking about the quality of interaction with others. Participants rate their interaction with coworkers on a seven-point continuum. The results provide a snapshot into the team’s level of emotional maturity, critical reflection, systems thinking and facilitative leadership abilities. This assessment can be used with individual team members or a facilitator/leader can use it as a development tool with the entire work group. The goal is to provide a starting point and then to watch for improvement. It is a long process to become a more effective, collaborative team. These questions can be a way to increase the perspective on team members’ abilities and highlight areas for learning.
